Just delete all your characters on the character selection screen (right after you log in).
Once you unlock a Character or bike a screen shows you. When you go to race or battle, that character should be on your character menu.
Okay, first you need two memory cards. One with the character you want to transfer, and one with the caravan you want it to join. Put one card in slot A and one in slot B. Then pick the file that you want to transfer the character to. Start the file, then go to the screen where you can change characters, access options, ect. There should be an icon that says friends or something like that. Select it and you should be able to transfer some characters from slot B to slot A. Or you could switch the memory cards around and transfer a character from the other caravan. (P.S. You need an open slot in your caravan to do this!)
You go to the character selection screen and select any character. then, you click the character you selected, and then you will change there colors. You can click them multiple times to get the desired colors. But, some characters, such as Wario, have multiple outfits.
If you have a password character made, you go to where the computer is on the character select screen and choose that to get to your password characters. The computer icon is found in the end of the characters in its own column.
When the screen comes up with all your characters, select the character you want to swap out, tap the character you want on the side, then click the button on the bottom of the screen that looks sort of like this: <->.
I had Rock Bnad for the PS2, and they didn't have the character creator either. They just have pre-made characters play on-screen. They change depending on the song type. Different characters for heavy metal than pop rock, like that.
In Melee, there are a number of ways to unlock hidden characters; for some, you must have the power turned on for over 24 hours, others require several hundred multiplayer battles, others require you to clear certain singleplayer challenges. However the character is unlocked, however, you will receive a warning screen, complete with blaring alarm, claiming that a new challenger is approaching, with the silhouette of the character on the screen. You will then have to beat the character with whichever character you used last to unlock them. This screen will reappear continuously once the initial condition has been met for multiplayer-battle-unlocked characters, and will reappear upon completion of the challenge for singleplayer-unlocked characters.
