Well, that depends. There are many factors to consider, not just age and weight. How tall are you? Are you male or female? Do you want to gain, lose, or maintain your weight? Are you active, sedentary, or somewhere in between? I am not a scientist or nutritionist or doctor; I can only tell you what I've gleaned from reading volumes of material. Leaving out changes in metabolism due to extremes in diets, genetic disorders, fasting, illnesses, and other more complicated scenarios, the most simple explanation is this: What everyone accepts as fact is that one pound gained or lost equals 3500 calories. In other words, when you eat 3500 more calories than you burn, whether it takes a day or a month or a year, you will gain one pound. The reverse is true for losing weight. If you burn the same as you eat, you will maintain your weight. The average 125 pound person with average metabolism burns approximately one calorie per minute just existing, to keep the body functioning. That's 1440 calories if you do nothing all day and all night but sleep. Of course, if you habitually do nothing all day and all night but sleep, your metabolism will slow down and you'll burn fewer calories, but we won't go there.) Let's say you sleep eight hours in a day, burning approximately 500 calories. Add to that what you burn doing other things in an average day and you can determine what your average calorie intake should be. If you sit in school for six hours, that's approximately 700 calories. You have chores when you get home, another hour at 200. Then there's doing homework and watching TV for four hours, add another 300. Let's hope you do a little vigorous exercise, say fast walking or slow running, for at least an hour, adding another 600 calories. So far, you've used 2300 calories and you still have another four hours to kill, so how many more calories you take in depends on whether you're playing soccer or playing couch potato. Hope that helps.

i don't think you need to worry about how much you eat. My doctor told me the average weight for a girl that is 5'5 and is a young adult is around 125. Regardless of weight, you should always try to eat healthy without eliminating calories, and still keep carbs and protein in your diet. Also, try to exercise at least once a week.

If you weigh below 150 pounds, you should consume 10X your body weight in calories. If you weigh over 151 pounds, you should consume 8X your body weight in calories.
