How Many Calories Should You Eat Daily?

To understand how many calories you require on daily basis, first you need to fix your goal whether you are loosing weight, maintaining weight or gaining weight.

(1) Weight Loss (or fat loss) :-

If your goal is to loose weight then your body weight is high or greater than normal body weight then you can use the following formula to loose either weight or fat :

Daily required Calories = [body weight (in pounds) × 11]

Example :- suppose that your body weight is 198 pounds = 90 kg and your goal is to loose weight so you should eat daily calories equals to:

Calories = 198 × 11

= 2178

(2) Weight Maintain :-

If your goal is to maintain your body weight then your body weight must be normal. So you can use the following formula to maintain your body weight :

Daily required Calories = [body weight (in pounds) × 15]

Example :- Suppose that your body weight is 132 pounds = 60 kg and your goal is to maintain your body weight so you should eat daily calories equals to:

Calories = 132 × 15

= 1980

(3) Weight Gain (or muscle gain) :-

If your goal is to gain weight then obviously your body weight is low. So you can use the following formula to gain either weight or muscle :

Daily required Calories = [body weight (in pounds) × 18]

Example :- Suppose that your body weight is 88 pounds = 40 kg and your goal is to gain weight so you should eat daily calories equals to:

Calories = 88 × 18

= 1584

To convert your weight from kg to pounds, multiply your body weight by 2.21

Now, to gain muscle, there should be calorie surplus. So, you can plan to go on a 3500 calorie diet. Make sure you take at least 178 grams of protein every day. Around 1600 calorie extras would be needed for 1 pound of muscle. Based on this calculation, hit gym for 2 weeks, assess your progress based on which you can better guess your maintenance calories and proceed further.
