she should be eating as much as he can burn off

depending on her height she should take in no more than 1500 calories daily

unless of course she hasn't had her growth spurt or is expected to keep growing physically. Then her calorie intake should be increased. If she plays an intensive sport, she should increase the calorie intake as well.

Weight loss depends very much on your height and general health. A 14-year-old girl has special diet needs during her teenage years, in addition, so dieting should be done very carefully with a doctor's input. The best answer to this question actually is: be sure you are getting enough exercise, and then see a doctor of nutritionist about your diet. Your school probably has someone trained on staff who can help for free.

I don't pretend to be an expert, but we all know a woman needs about 2000 calories and men need 2500 calories but a fourteen year old is growing so they probably need a bit more than 2000 or 2500. This depends however on how much exercise you do, the more you do, the more you need to eat. If you do very little exercise, then 2,000/2500 calories or a little under is best. And if you want to loose weight, although its not advisable in teenagers, eating 100 calories less or more each day will help you do that. Eating about 1500 calories - if your a girl/2000 calories could help you loose 2 pounds a week. Little children need a lot of fat, when they are very young, they aren't like adults, fat is important. As a kid a fourteen year old should drink milk, eat lots of meat and protein rich food, and carbs - don't worry about gaining weight from eating bread -its a myth, and of course fruit and veg, a vegetarian or vegan diet is not healthy or advisable for a growing child - oh and an obvious point i know its difficult but at any age, eating sweets, biscuits, cake, and ice-cream is never beneficial so try keep them to a minimum for a healthier lifestyle although admittedly at your age you can get away with it more than a 40 year old.

If you're a parent, watch what your kid eats and make sure they don't eat crap, but remember that boys need more. If your child is fat then they are obviously eating too much and not doing enough, if they are underweight, you should take them to a nutritionist.

If you're the kid, then don't feel bad if you're not supermodel skinny, that's okay, but if you are like double the other children, you are slowly killing yourself and need to see a doctor, sorry its the truth.

Good luck.

Depending if she wants to lose weight or just maintain it depends. To lose weight normally a 1,200 calorie diet is normal. To maintain is about a 1,400 to 1,500 calorie diet. That's what I found that works.
