If you're not working out, it would have to be like 100, which would be an unhealthy choice. A more reasonable expectation for losing weight would be like 1 to 2 pounds in a week. Try to eat 100 calories less per day, and use at least 100 calories through exercise. That will result in a 20 pound loss in one year.

A decently active person will probably burn more than 2,000 calories a day. http://www.mypyramid.gov/mypyramid/index.aspx has a pretty decent calorie estimator. 1 pound of weight loss per week is usually considered safe. 1 pound of body fat = ~ 3,000 calories. So, for someone that burns 2,000 calories a day, you would want to eat around 1,500 calories per day to lose 1 pound per week. Make sure you eat satiating foods with high nutrient counts. Weigh yourself at the same time each weigh-in, and don't weigh yourself day to day. Weight fluctuates daily. Weekly weigh-ins are a better idea.

It depends on your current weight and height. Go to a website that recommends daily caloric intake, and follow the extreme fat loss number. Do not go under 1,000 calories per day for health fat loss. Increase the amount of exercise. Less food, more movement= less weight.

If you want rapid weight loss,1200calories would be okay.but less than that,your body will start gaining weight because it hasn't gotten alot of carbs to burn from.if you want slow weight loss, then 1500 is okay too=]
