1500 to 1800 hundred. and also it depends on what kind of food. if its junk and surgar, surgary cerials,sweets, or just normal things with a lot of surgar in them. if he is eating unnatural carbs like white bread, (basically anthing besides whlole grains) not to mention if he is drinking soda, and sobies, etc..... then i would change the eating habbits. eat oatmeal, (without surgar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) eat fruits and veggies, fish chicken (even canned chicken or fish) lots of canned beans like pinto, kidney, garbanzo, black beans. switch over to pure corn tortills insted of white or flour tortills. and be active!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! start playing Basketball,soccer, Baseball, swim, tennis, racqette ball, biking, running, push ups, sit ups, wall sits, planks, running lines, even swinging on a swing is better then nothing. or go for walks and if its "too cold outside" then walk around the house. walking burns 4calories per minit. and add up all computer, video games, or any eletronic gaming device (including tv!) and limit all that too 90min per day!
