Freon is a trademark specific to DuPont. Your 1997 Blazer uses R134a, and has a Fixed Orifice Tube system. On the sticker by the evaporator, the manufacturer recommends the system be charged to 1 lb, 14. oz (30 oz.). This is also verified in the owner's manual, although the owner's manual incorrectly translates this to two pounds (it's actually two ounces short).
I can stand by this answer wholeheartedly, because it just so happens that I also drive a 1997 Blazer, and I do my own A/C system work.
Purchase a Freon recharge kit. Connects the Freon hoses to the ports on the air conditioner compressor. Release the Freon into the compressor.
Freon is R12. Your 1997 Chevy uses R134 Refrigerant.
You should have this verified but the freon is probably HFC134.
you need 8.00 oz. of oil and 2.25 lbs of freon
did you try going to a auto store an buying a can to recharge it??
Its on top of the a/c accumulator.................
The 1997 Ford F1 50 pickup truck low pressure recharge port is located on the air conditioner compressor. The low pressure recharge port will be labeled as such.
You can buy a r134a recharge kit from your local auto parts store. The instructions are in the box. Pretty simple really.
Buy a kit at Wal-Mart or auto parts comes with instructions
The low pressure AC service port can be found on the side of the accumulator/receiver dryer.
Take it to a shop. You will not be able get freon to finish the job as it is a regulated gas. Only licensed AC mechanics can purchase freon.
(I recommend you take it to a garage as if you get too much in it you can lock the compressor or it won't cool right .
