If by altherbet you mean alphabet, it was called the Futhark, or Futhorc, depending on the region and time period. It was composed of runes, primarily characters made of straight vertical and diagonal lines meant to be carved against the grain in wood. Just as the word "alphabet" comes from the first two letters of the character row (Alpha Beta), so does the name Futhark comes from the first few letters of the viking character row. They were not dug in straight lines, because both sides used artillery to bombard one another. If an artillery shell hit a trench in a straight line it could wipe out a lot of soldiers, as the its blast could not be contained. A trench is made in that jaggerd format because if an artillery shell hits the trench it can be stopped by the structure and walls of the trench. The explosion in a straight line can get a lot futher than if a wall is in the way. Also the structure can be complicated to confuse the enemy if they ever manage to get into the trench.

No. A circle has no straight lines. You can approximate circles with very small straight lines (that's how a computer draws circles) but mathematically, no.
A shape made up of line segments is a shape with straight lines, or a polygon. for example, a square has straight lines, or is made up of line segments. A circle is not in that category because it has no straight lines, they are curved.
Depends. Probably not because nothing is perfect! :)i have to disagree - the sides of crystals are straight~*Sigh*All lines are straight. A man-made one may not be, but by the correct definition, all lines are straight. Straight lines are a mathematical concept - an ideal concept - and therefore, conceptually, all lines are straight even if man-made ones are mere approximations.
There are no straight lines in the letter "W" because it is made up of two diagonal lines intersecting at a point.
