For a low carb diet, the usual range is 20 to 50 grams per day. Some people, especially those who are insulin resistant (many overweight people are insulin resistant without being aware of it), need to drop down to 15 or 10 grams per day.

The best way is to experiment and discover what amount works well for you as an individual. It does vary from person to person. If you need maximum weight loss because you have a lot of weight to lose, then you may wish to aim for benign dietary ketosis. For further information, see the page links, further down this page, listed under Related Questions.

You have to set a goal weight, figure out how much less you have to eat to attain that. To loose a lb you need to eat 3500 less calories.

Your body needs the balance of all nutrients, so protein, fat and carbs are a must. To loose 1 lb a week, you need to figure out what to cut out from how you are eating do it. I have the book CALORIE KING which tells you food products and the whole calorie, fat, etc. I learn to eat rather boring, so I can remember how much I can have of something and stay within components.

You can rotate your desires, just eat less. No more HUGE DQ Blizzards when the 12 oz is just fine. For me I take a small DQ cone when I crave ice cream. 1/2 cup = 150 calories. So I did not need the LARGEST when the brain said it wanted a taste.

Have a friend help you figure this math out. Each person has to map out their own. I ate pre-listed diets as their is something always I hate on it. So figure essentials, how much you can have, sometimes just 1 bite will tell the brain ENOUGH.

Remember to eat the 3 meals and 2-3 snacks a day. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.

For a low carbohydrate diet the usual range is 20 to 50 grams of carbohydrate daily. Experiment and discover what amount works well for you as an individual. Unlike protein and fats, there is no minimum daily requirement of carbohydrate in order to flourish physically.

Though there is no minimum daily requirement of carbohydrate, carbs do have many beneficial phytochemicals and fiber so eating some is fine as long as they are not refined processed carbohydrates.

Refined processed carbohydrates
are a major cause of weight gain, obesity, insulin resistance, and many diet related diseases. Eliminate or strictly limit refined processed carbohydrates (apart from the occasional treat). Replace those foods with 'fat burning' foods and take full advantage of the thermic effect of those foods. You will find a list of fat burning foods, and a list of refined processed carbohydrates, and more about the thermic effect, further down this page, at the bottom of this answer.

Good natural sources of carbohydrates for weight loss are (preferably organic) fresh non-starchy vegetables and fresh low carb fruits such as berries.

Can you lose weight just by eating cheese sandwiches for a week?

* You may or may not lose weight. However, I don't recommend it. Even if you did lose weight you WILL put it back on again when you return to normal eating. You are also starving your body of key nutrients and vitamins which you need to be healthy, and survive. * If I ate cheese sandwiches for one week I would gain weight. Most people would. Eating cheese sandwiches is not the way to lose weight. You would be eating fat too many refined (processed) carbohydrates. Refined (processed) carbohydrates are a major cause of weight gain and obesity.

Is is a good idea to lower carbohydrates to lose weight in all cases?

If you are on an intense fitness regimen a number of carbohydrates will be needed. Overall, however, reducing your daily intake of carbohydrates, particularly refined processed carbohydrates, is good for weight loss and health. Refined processed carbohydrates are a major cause of weight gain, obesity, insulin resistance, heart disease, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, diabetes type 2, and other diet related diseases. Too many carbohydrates, particularly refined processed carbohydrates, can produce insulin resistance. Hence, our present epidemics of obesity and diabetes type 2.If you have become significantly insulin resistant (many people are insulin resistant without being aware of it), it can reach the stage where you will need to count carbohydrates and calories in order to lose weight. In other words, people who have become very insulin resistant can no longer lose weight by just counting calories or by just counting carbohydrates, even though both or either method worked for them in the past (when they were less insulin resistant). If you are unsure what refined processed carbohydrates are, see the page link, further down this page, listed under Related Questions..

Yes, and in fact, many diets promote little to no carbohydrates. However, carbohydrates promote emotional well being/ satiety, and managing dramatic changes in diet can be very hard for many people. Will a vegetarian diet enable you to lose weight in one week?

It can help you lose weight. Many people who are trying to lose weight want a "quick fix" which does not work in the long run. You must establish healthy long term habits if you are to maintain a healthy weight.I've seen overweight vegetarians! If a vegetarian eats a lot of simple carbohydrates and fat, he/she can become overweight.Whether or not you are a vegetarian, you must eat healthy to maintain a healthy weight.
