Carbs in Beer

Drinking beer and low-carb diets definitely don't mix!

Carbs for per 12 ounces of some popular brands of beer:

  • Sam Adams Lager: 18
  • Guinness: 17
  • Corona: 14
  • Miller Genuine Draft (MGD): 13
  • Michelob: 13
  • Sierra Nevada Pale Ale: 12
  • Heineken: 12
  • Budweiser: 11
  • Coors Light: 5
  • Amstel Light: 5

For the record, the average red wine has about 7 or 8 carbs per 12 ounces. The average white wine only has about 3 carbs for the same amount. Assuming you're not drinking wine by the pint it clearly beats beer in the carb department.

Mixed drinks can be about the same. Gin & tonic or vodka cranberry have about six or seven carbs per 12 ounces. Margaritas are very bad: they might have about 15 carbs.

That depends entirely on the beer. The number varies so much that it's useless to formulate a list and put it here. Try this: http://www.realbeer.com/edu/health/calories.php

I do believe (after research) that there are no carbs in whiskey, brandy, gin and vodka!! Watch out for the mixers though.
