2, one on the left and one on the right 4, 2 on the left and 2 on the right. First on the left (or right) is right off the manifold, then comes the second one on the left (or right), and on it's pipe, before the actual converter is the rear O2 sensor. (I've just changed them all. Some people, and even dealers refer to the rear ones as only resonators, as they reduce even more the sound and vibration of the air coming out. However, they still have the sensitive ceramic "mesh" inside. Although they are shaped differently, the have the same built (structure) as the first catalytic converters The first (front) ones look like over-sized to-go coffee mugs (with 6 bolts by manifold and three at the other end), the second ones (continuing the first ones and with the support for the O2 sensors look like small resonators/mufflers with a heat/splash shield). The new converters (front ones) don't usually come with heat/splash shields anymore :-(
