Arteries have thick walls that carry blood from the heart to different parts of the body. Veins have thinner walls that carry non-oxygenated blood to the heart. Capillaries are extremely thin walls that join arteries to veins.
The capillaries allow diffusion of nutrients, waste, and oxygen through their walls, which are one cell thick. This diffusion allows transportation of nutrients and waste materials throughout the body.
