Nothing in the Book of Genesis has been verified by science.
There are two different creation stories (Genesis 1:1-2:4a and 2:4b-2:20) but neither comes close to describing the origins of the universe and of life on earth. Whereas The Bible implies that the first plants, animals and humans were created only six to eight thousand years ago, science tells us that the first organisms evolved more than a billion years ago, and that modern humans first walked the earth more than two hundred thousand years ago.
The biblical Flood has left no trace in the geological or fossil record, and no evidence exists for Noah's Ark. Only pseudo-science can be brought forward as a defence of this story, and this can be easily and quickly disproved.
If the stories of the Patriarchs are in any way true, there should be some archaeological evidence to prove them. Yet the opposite is true. The Genesis stories of the Patriarchs are disproved by the archaeological record. For example, Abraham is said to have journeyed on foot through the land of the Philistines, yet the Philistines were a sea people who only arrived centuries after the time attributed to Abraham.
If Joseph quickly rose to be the vizier of all Egypt, second only to the pharaoh, then we should find some mention of this in the Egyptian records, yet no such evidence exists.

In order to answer this question it will be necessary to have details of which folk myth is being referred to. One point of general comparison which immediately comes to mind though is that Genesis is not myth, although some like to regard it so. It is written as a historical record, originally written in ancient Hebrew, and divided up into various sections or chapters (not here referring to the more modern chapter divisions) according to subject matter. As a historical record Genesis events have been verified by both science (the Genesis Flood) and by Archaeology (names, places, and customs mentioned in Genesis). Myths of course cannot be verified in any way as they are not necessarily based in any kind of reality although they may seek to explain such.
