Smoking does not necessarily cause lung cancer. It does however, increase the chances of getting it. There is no safe minimum, or maximum.
To reduce your chances of lung cancer do not smoke at all.

I believe Tar is what gives it the blackish color but there are MANY chemicals that cause cancer in cigarettes.
