I think at least a million died LOL!
Actually - the official number is 7000 from 1942 to 1994.
Close to 100000 whites have been killed since 1994.
Just to put it into perspective!
^^^^ this guy is an idiot! wow. great answer. yes, alot of people died, but if you're going to put it on WikiAnswers, have a number.
According to a Human Rights Commission report submitted to the TRC (Truth and Reconciliation Commission) in 1997 the number of blacks that died during Apartheid (1948 to 1989) was 7 000.
Compared to 14 000 for the period 1990 to 1994.
Compared to 174 220 for the period 1994 to 2000 (under Nelson Mandela)
The report also states that about 92% of deaths were caused by 'black-on-black' violence. (1990 to 1994)
Please note this is not from Apartheid Government's books but from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission set up by all political parties after the collapse of apartheid. If you really believe there to have been millions of deaths, do tell where you think the bodies are buried?
millons of people died

There were a lot of people who died. It was very tragic.
In 1948 a system was introduced. It was Apartheid. It was made to keep difference between the races and give an advantage to the white people. The habitants were divided into different categories. Black, white and coloured. A person from a category couldn't marry another person from another category. The towns were distributed into areas, only members of racial groups could live there. Many people died and got wounded while Apartheid had the power. Many rules were made, that made it difficult for the black people to live there. Some of the rules were; Pass Laws made it illegal for the black people to travel around in some of the areas. Homelands were made for the black people. They weren't allowed to settle permanently in areas outside the homelands. Black male workers had to live in areas outside the big cities. The areas were called Township, the workers had to live there alone, without there family. To secure that the black people weren't in a area too long they had to have passes. And to secure the other things I just wrote. Hope it could help ! :P

the most people in south Africa to die were black and they died during the apartheid
Well let us start of with apartheid. It is absolutely wrong, but right over the world today there is still apartheid going on. The view of the Bible says that God created us according to His image, and the day when we die and meet our Maker will all look the same, there will be no white, black ,coloured people will all look alike. But before we can go to heaven we have to confess with our mouths that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, and raised on the third day,and now sits on the right hand of God,and pleading for us. So apartheid is completely wrong as it divides people on cultures, and colour. Fortunately for us who accepted Jesus Christ as our Saviour knows that Apartheid does not exist.
Patrick Duncan - anti-apartheid activist - died in 1967.

In the Great Smog of 1952 in London, it is estimated that around 12,000 people died prematurely due to the effects of the smog. The exact number of deaths directly caused by the smog is difficult to determine, as many deaths were attributed to respiratory issues exacerbated by the pollution.
