Some diseases carried by humans can infect coral reefs and scientists have just recently discovered that a form of the herpes virus is killing coral reefs.
Cuba could be putting something in the water that makes the Coral Reefs die.
In some areas of the world, coral reefs are dying. Pollution, tourism and fishing all pose hazards to what are relatively fragile ecosystems. No doubt there are some isolated coral reefs which are thriving.
they are home to the most animals in the ocean and are extremly in danger because if you even touch them they will die.
The reefs die and that is bad so don't pollute!!
coral reefs are being hurt by pollution, overfishing, and other problems. Recently, researchers at a meeting on coral reefs sounded the alarm. They said that if nothing is done, more than half the world's coral could die within the next 25 years.
The fish and coral would die.
When coral polyps die, their exoskeletons are left for new polyps to build upon. Over long periods of time this process creates reefs.
many coral reefs might die and might be extinct by putting too much nutrients
A coral reef is a colony of corals. A coral reef can be formed on rock rubble, but old established coral reefs are actually structured out of dead coral. This is one of the reasons it takes so long for a reef to form. Some corals may life for tens or even hundreds of years before they die and allow another coral to grow on top of their skeleton. There are many types of coral reefs, but the real difference is that coral is what makes up a coral reef.
Over fishing reduces the amount of breeding stock so the coral reefs become depleted of their natural fauna and the corals are not looked after by their normal inhabitants and subsequently die off. There is also the terrible damage done to the reefs by boats, walkers and also anchors ripping and smashing the coral to bits.
C. The effects of coral reef destruction are: 1. Coral reefs protect the land from storm and tidal surges, so when they are all destroyed frequent costal flooding occurs 2. Coral reefs are probable sources of medicines to cure the diseases that currently run rampant across the earth. Chemicals found in reefs have been used to treat ulcers, heart disease, leukemia and more. 3. Coral reefs absorb carbon dioxide and use it to form their shells if they are no more coral reefs then there would be more carbon dioxide in the ocean and our atmosphere.
