This is very strange. I checked the back of a box of C & H powdered sugar and it said there were 15 "servings" per box, each a quarter of a pound, so according to that box, 3 3/4 cups per pound. I double checked the store brand, it also had 15 "servings" per box, but said each serving was 0.125 of a cup, or an eighth of a cup, which would mean just under 2 cups per pound. I checked the 2 lb. bag of store brand powdered sugar, and it said there were 30 units of .25 cups, which would mean 7.5 cups per bag, and 3 3/4 cups per pound.
I have to assume there is an error on the back of the pound box of the store brand, and the correct answer is in fact approx. 3 3/4 cups per pound.
