In Luke's Gospel, the ascension of Jesus occurred on the evening of his resurrection. In Acts of the Apostles, by the same author but written some time later, the ascension of Jesus occurred forty days after his resurrection.
After the 72 hours or 3 full days in the tomb, Jesus spent 40 days on the Earth. Then He ascended into Heaven until the time of His 2nd future Coming. On the 50th day then, (which is what Pentecost means), which was a Sunday or 7 weeks and a day (7x7=49+1=50) after His 1st Saturday Resurrection, God gave His Holy Spirit to the Apostles and many, many more. It may be read in the opening chapters of the Book of Acts.
The Holy Spirit came with power upon the disciples 10 days after the ascension on the Day of Pentecost.
Pentecost.
Usually during the spring, around the Feast of Pentecost.
The Pentecost is a Christian holiday that commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples of Jesus after his Ascension.
The Solemnity of the Ascension is on Thursday, forty days after Easter, it celebrates Our Blessed Lord's ascension into heaven, and is followed ten days later by Pentecost when He sends the Holy Spirit down on His Church. The Ascension may be transferred to the Sunday before Pentecost in some dioceses.
The Outpouring of the Holy Spirit occurred in Acts 2V1- Day of Pentecost. In Acts 2, I am sure you know the story - where the disciples were all in one place with one accord and suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind and it filled the house where they were sitting. It was at this point that that cloven tongues of fire came upon them like fire and it sat upon them.........and so on. They were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. This is when the outpouring of the Holy Spirit happened.
Mary was present with the Apostles when they received the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. She was gathered with them in the upper room as instructed by Jesus before his ascension. She played a vital role in the early Christian community as a witness to these events.
because its when you recieve the sacrament of the girfts of the holy spirit.
They related to holiness because the effect of Confirmation is a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit like that of Pentecost. This outpouring impresses on the soul an indelible character and produces a growth in the grace of Baptism. It roots the recipient more deeply in divine sonship, binds him more firmly to Christ and to the Church and reinvigorates the gifts of the Holy Spirit in his soul. It gives a special strength to witness to the Christian faith.
Luke 9:27 - "But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who shall not taste death till they see the kingdom of God." [NKJV]One interpretation holds that this prophecy was fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost following Jesus' ascension, with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the apostles and the conversion of "about three thousand souls" (Acts 2:41).
It was 50 days, because Jesus was crucified on the Passover and Pentecost is 50 days after that. This is important because the Jewish feast of Pentecost included the offering of two loaves of unleavened bread representing the first fruits of the harvest (see Lev. 23:17-20 , Deut. 16:9-10), Jesus is the First Fruit of the Harvest, and Pentecost in the Christian Church is also the anniversary of the coming of the Holy Spirit (see Acts 2).
Ascension Thursday is 40 days after Easter because Jesus left 40 days after He resurrected, and Pentecost Sunday is 10 days after Ascension Thursday because the Holy Spirit filled Jesus' disciples 10 days after He left. (So the gift of the Holy Spirit was 50 days after the Resurrection.)
