Less than automobile accidents. The FBI Uniform Crime Report is the document you want.

This document will include all deaths as a lump sum, including those by Law Enforcement, and agencies of the Federal Government, including the FBI, and credit is directed at the law abiding American Gun Owner.

This number is used by anti gun supporters in and out of the Federal Government to try to take away the 2nd Amendment right to 'Keep and Bear Arms' from law abiding citizens, which is misinformation on all counts by not separating the categories of each occurrence that led to death by a firearm.

Therefore you will not get a true number for any one type of death you may be doing research on.
