800000 times a year it so fast

Is it true that a building can be protected from lightning by grounding?

Lightning can still strike a building, but grounding makes the electricity in the lightning flow into the ground, making it a less of a danger to the people in the building. Yes its true

What do they use on building so lightning doesnt strike it?

Usally a metal rod on top of the buliding to attract the lightning

Why are lightning conductors fixed to tall buildings?

Probably a Lightning Conductor. They say , in a Bad Storm, lightning will strike the Tallest building first. Cheers.

How do lightning rod protect building from lightning?

The main way a lightning rod protects a building is by being higher than any other part of the building it maintains a cone of uncharged air over the building. This uncharged air cannot become charged when a thunderstorm passes over as the charges are continuously discharged through the ground wire from the rod to ground. As no charges can be built up within this cone, lightning cannot enter this cone to strike the building. The second way a lightning rod protects a building is that any lightning directly above the building can only strike the tip of the lightning rod itself. The current will then be forced to follow the ground wire from the rod to ground, bypassing the building. However as this current can be in the megaampere range it is necessary to have the complete lightning rod system inspected after any such strike to be sure that parts have not been melted and that the lightning rod is still protecting the building!

What are two main ways a lightning rod protects a building?

1.lightning rods helps prevent lightning from striking 2.helps the lightning strike the ground quicker and safer.

What is the function of lighting conductor on tall building?

Prevent lightning strikes by creating a cone of discharged air around the building. Should it actually be struck by a lightning bolt it will almost certainly be damaged and may melt possibly causing a small fire on the outside wall, it should be inspected and will likely need to be replaced to continue to provide lightning protection.

Why do you sometimes hear thunder at about the same time of lightning?

you are probably hearing the thunder from a different lightning strike.

Can lightning strike a surfer?

Yes. Lightning CAN strike anything.

Why doesn't lightning strike ships?

Lightning does strike ships.

How do you protect buildings from lightning?

By getting it to strike something else instead. Benjamin Franklin invented the lightning Rod to do this. It diverts the lightning to the earth through a good metal conductor when placed higher than the house and planted in the earth/ground.

What is the function rods?

A lightning rod (US, AUS) or lightning conductor(UK) is a metal rod or metallic object mounted on top of a building, electrically bonded using a wire or electrical conductor to interface with ground or "earth" through an electrode, engineered to protect the building in the event oflightning strike. If lightning hits the building it will preferentially strike the rod and be conducted to ground through the wire, instead of passing through the building, where it could start a fire or cause electrocution.A lightning rod is a single component in a lightning protection system. Lightning rods are also called finials, air terminals or strike termination devices. The lighting rod requires a connection to earth to perform its protective function. Lightning rods come in many different forms, including hollow, solid, pointed, rounded, flat strips or even bristle brush-like. The main attribute of all lightning rods is they are conductive.
