The Vietnam Veterans Memorial was unveiled in Washington, D.C.
The question is misplaced, it's not what veterans do for us, it's, what veterans did for us!. Veterans gave themselves completely and solely to defend this nation in the event of war. Our veterans are the backbone of this country.?
Over 1.3 million acres of land was granted to qualifying Texian veterans in 1879.
VA medical facilities offer free care for service connected disabilities, financial disability payments are awarded to service connected disabilities, counselling is available, and the GI bill allows, at no cost to Viet Veterans, home loans, college/trade school education and training.
Through remembrance. Don't forget their service. Say "Thanks."
Service connected only.
The answer is complicated as it depends on many things, when & where the veteran served, service connected disabilities, current income (for needs based benefits), etc. The best resource to answer this is the VA or by contacting a veterans service organization such as The American Legion, Disabled American Veterans (DAV), or Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) , among others.

It puts you in a higher Priority Group for VA healthcare. Group 1: veterans awarded a service-connected disability rating of 50 percent or higher Group 2: veterans awarded a service-connected disability rating of 30-40 percent Group 3: Purple Heart recipients, former prisoners of war, veterans with a 10-percent disability rating, or individuals disabled by VA treatment or vocational rehabilitation. Group 4: veterans receiving aid in attendance or housebound pension benefits Group 5: veterans with no service-connected disabilities, and whose income and net worth are below $27,000 Group 6:World War I vets, Mexican Border vets, Gulf War Illness vets, vets who served in combat in a war after the Gulf War, vets receiving care for exposure to toxic substances or radiation. I AM DOING A SURVEY ON HOW MANY VETERANS LIVING IN OSCEOLA COUNTY, FLORIDA FOR HABITAT FOR HUMANITY.
$40.00 along with proof of a disability rating and honorabe service
With all the veterans that own and operate a HD, I believe they (HD) should offer a substancial discount to those vetrerans that that have been disabled due to military service.
My experience is of how overly adversarial & abusive the SSA & VA claims process is. As a 100% "Service-Connected" Disabled American veteran, the VA is delaying the awarding of an Earlier Effective date that is consistent with my "Service-Connection" and onset of disabilities (1987). The SSA medical exam determined disability in 1991 but crooked lawyers & judges cheated me. (Answer edited to remove personal information)
It would depend on whether or not the mental (or medical) reason(s) for discharge are service connected. If the V.A. determines that the reasons are service connected, then you should still be able to obtain veterans benefits. You may also qualify for some services from the V.A. even if your disability isn't service connected, but these are decided on case by case.
I believe the Veterans Affairs has decided that PN is a service connected disease to Agent Orange (Dioxin).
