A full sized light sussex hen could potentially sit on over 20 eggs. However, she would struggle to cope with that many chicks if the hatch was a successful one. 15 is a good number.
Also make sure u mark any eggs that are underneath her, she will be stealing eggs left right and centre from your other hens trying to make them hatch too. there's a high chance these eggs wont hatch as they would be at an ealier stage of incubation when the majority of the chicks hatch. its very annoying when a broody hen steals all your eating eggs and you cant tell the difference between them.
Sometimes, she will usually wait to sit when there are many eggs.

they lay one egg a day for about 12 days before they decide to sit and incubate their eggs. They also "steal" eggs from other chickens who are not broody.
It depends on the chicken. Some will sit and then gradually get more and more eggs. Chickens in all don't have a "limit" of eggs they will sit. Often a hen will go broody without sitting on any eggs. Some hens have sat on twenty eggs but it can be hard for them. Sometimes one egg. But on average and for an average chicken, it would be around a dozen.
sit on the eggs
There are many birds that do not have to sit on their eggs constantly. Robins only sit on the eggs occasionally.
They sit on them as soon as the egg is laid. They will continue sitting on the eggs until they hatch. This keeps the eggs warm. If you gather the eggs every day, the hens are less apt to sit on them. Sometimes their maternal instincts kick in and they will sit on the eggs. When that happens you can just reach underneath and pull the eggs out. They may peck at your hand, but it doesn't hurt.
It depends on her diet, the time of year (especially in terms of photoperiod), her condition, age, and even breed. Some hens may just sit on one: othes may sit on more than a dozen eggs.
Yes. Kookaburras incubate their eggs by sitting on them. Both the male and female sit on the eggs, sharing their incubation duties.
they sit on their eggs about the same amount other birds do and they do not bury their heads in the ground.
