“A throne was in its position in heaven, and someone was seated on the throne. And the One seated had the appearance of a jasper stone and a sardius stone, and all around the throne was a rainbow like an emerald in appearance.”—Revelation 4:2, 3. Descriptions like these are a symbolic way of describing something that cannot be comprehended by humans. It is intended to give us the understanding that God is the highest authority in the universe and his presence is one of awe-inspiring beauty, pleasantness, and serenity. Since God is a spirit, he does not need a literal throne to sit upon. Read John 4:24 and Acts 17:24. Although we may not understand the true nature of the spirit realm that he dwells in, we can at least understand that he is our creator, that he is the highest authority in the universe and he deserves our loyalty and worship. jworg/en/library/magazines/watchtower-no6-2016-november/visions-of-heaven/ Add a period between jw and org and then visit the website for more detailed answers.

I've also wondered this. I've read in the Bible that says they are just wise people that ran a few churches and there are 24 of them. But I don't know details or who they are. My only theory is that they are some kind of enlightened beings chosen by God. ACTS 14:23 - And when they had ordained then elders in every church and had prayed with fasting they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed. REV 4:10-11 - The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
