Electron arrangement makes it easy to know the number of electrons in the outermost energy level of atoms. Carbon, hydrogen, fluorine, argon, sulfur and magnesium have 4, 1, 7, 8, 6 and 2 electrons in their outermost energy levels respectively.

Sulfur is 16 I think so 1s2 2s2 2p6 3s2 3d4. 1st level would be 2. 2nd level would be 8.(2s2=2p6) 3rd would be 6 as well.

2p6 means

2=level

p=orbital

6=Electrons in the orbital

How can atoms with fewer than 8 valence electrons fill their outermost energy level Use either sulfur or magnesium to explain the process?

An atom of magnesium has two valence electron. It can have a full outer level by losing two electron. The second energy level becomes the outermost energy level with eight electrons.

What is the number of electrons in the outermost energy level of a sulfur atom?

6 electrons

Valence electrons for sulfur?

Sulphur has 6 valence electrons

Of electrons in outermost level of sulphur?

Sulfur has 6 electrons in the outermost energy level as its electronic configuration is 2, 8, 6.

Why is the oxidation number of Sulfur never higher than 6?

In chemical bonding, only the valence shell electrons participate in reactions in general conditions. Sulfur has 6 electrons in its third energy level, outermost shell. Therefore the highest oxidation number for sulfur is +6.

How many electrons will a neutral sulfur atom have in its outermost energy level?

Six.

How many electrons in the valence shell of sulfur?

There are 6 valence electrons in the sulfur atom.

How many valence electrons does a sulfur atom have?

Both have six valance electrons. That is what the number at the top of their column means.

What is the difference between the arrangement of electrons in sulfur and chlorine?

Chlorine has one more electron then sulfur, so it has 1 more electron in the outer shell, 1 more valence electron. Chlorine has 5 electrons in the outermost shell and sulfur has 4.
