There are no elements whose symbol does not match their name -- in some language!
The elements known to the ancients all match their latin names:
Pb = plumbum = lead.
Sn = stannum = tin.
Cu = cuprum = copper.
Au = aurum = gold
Ag = argentum = silver
Hg = hydrargyrum = Mercury
A few more recently discovered elements also match their latin names:
Na = natrium = sodium
K = kalium = potassium -- actually this name originally derives from the Arabic "al kali" -- recognize it?
Sb = stibium = antimony
One element has a symbol that matches its German name:
W = Wolfram = tungsten
I guess that makes about 10 elements whose symbol does not match their English name. Hope I have not forgotten any!
Xenon has the chemical symbol Xe.
Only elements have symbols. Shampoo is probably made up of a lot of different element atoms or molecules, plus a lot of other chemicals that are made up of many different elements or minerals. Shampoo does not had a chemical symbol.
Many ceramics are known; they have not a chemical symbol but a chemical formula; and sometimes they are mixtures.
Many chemical elements have a two letter symbol.
Well you see this is a complex answer. Gary Monk invented many chemical formulas because of his brilliance in chemistry. He is from the US and doesnt have a GED. However he is entering his 6th senior year and now has a collection of 10 senior shirts because he stole 4 of them from he previous years. He is still actually in high school. But he always wins so all he says is Gary gonna win. So all in all this is how chemical formulas are related to symbols because of one phrase GARY GONNA WIN
Xenon has the chemical symbol Xe.
A chemical symbol for an element is one or two letters. These are found on the Periodic Table of elements. The chemical symbol is an abbreviation of the chemical element name.Example: O is the chemical symbol for Oxygen.K is the chemical symbol for Potassium.Pb is the symbol for lead.He is the symbol for helium.
Helium is one element and does not chemically react.
The chemical symbol of uranium is U; uranium has 92 protons.
Now are known 118 chemical elements.
Many chemical elements have a two letter symbol.
75 dissolved chemical elements
The subscript that is to the right of the element symbol, no subscript means 1. Example H2O, 2 hydrogen 1 oxygen
91.5% approx. Most of the rest have a symbol which starts with the first letter of the element's Latin name.
Now (22.08.2012) 118 chemical elements are known.
