According to the Owners Manual (See "Related Questions" below), the fuel tank on both the 2000 and 2002 Taurus' is 18 gallons.
My E250 gas tank holds every bit of 35 gallons. For the longest time I did not believe that, but now I trust the s received on the FTE Ford Truck Enthusiasts forum, having once run the content down so low I barely limped into a gas station.
Probably a few gallons sit below the tank's "pump", and I could only tell I was getting so low as I was travelling thru a large mall parking lot, with lots of ups and downs, so sloshing gas caused my early warning, or I would have run completely out. Pumped over 34 gallons into the nearly empty tank that day. The gas guage seems to reflect not in proportion to the filled tank status, seems.
Good luck with it.
