This will depend upon the type of colic the horse has. In stragulation colic cases where the intestines have perforated, the horse generally has only a few hours of life left - the intestinal contents cause acute septic shock that is rapidly fatal. However, in a mild case of impaction colic, once the impaction has been resolved through medical management the horse can go on to live a normal life.

It depends on a couple of things. What made him colic in the first place? For example if a horse gets 'sand colic' (colic from eating in sandy soil) the sand can be flushed out of his system. But if for some reason the horse gets a twisted bowel or intestine the prognosis is not nearly as good. Another factor is how severe the colic is and how soon it was treated. Colic is the number 1 killer of horses so it should never be addressed with a 'wait and see' attitude. Always call your vet at the first signs of colic. A big factor in getting treating colic early is to know your horse. If he is not acting like he normally does there is probably a good reason why. Some people get so good at reading their horses that just the expression on their faces is enough to tell them that something isn't right. With colic every second counts.

Yes, the majority of colic cases resolve however colic can be deadly. It is important to have a veterinarian assess a horse that is colicing as soon as possible to determine if more intensive treatment is needed as early treatment affects the likelihood of survival.

Can you use gas x for horses with gas colic?

I would advise you to see your local vet if your horse has colic because 90% of horses that get colic die from it. Ex my horse had colic but you should have your horse on a lead walking around and don't let it lay down, If your horse rolls over than its intestines will get even worse and not even your vet can help.

Horses with coilc will they live?

Horses develop colic due to a blockage of their intestines from impacted food or when excess gas causes the intestines to twist and contort. Most cases of colic are not deadly when caught and treated. Minor cases can be delt with by simply walking the horse until the obstruction clears or the gas dissipates. Mineral oil can be introduced directly through a tube into the horses stomach to help as well. Severe cases of colic can be surgically treated by a vet. Horse can and do die from colic if not treated.

Can Horses eat Fenbendazole for cattle?

I doubt it as horses may get colic from eating cattle feed *Fenbendazole is used in the Panacur powerpacks. If you use it correctly, then your horse will be fine with it. Roundworms release a toxin that kills horses as they die off, so you need to watch your horse for worm colic as you use it and follow a simple schedule. Every horse is different, but I use the cheaper cattle brand for my standardbred and appaloosa for about 4 days 2 times a year.
