Assuming you go M1, M6, A74(M), M74, M73, M80, A9, it will take about 10 to 15 hours of non stop driving, depending on the traffic. So when you include time for breaks, it becomes a very long journey! Its usually fairly quick to get up to the Glasgow area but the journey slows down a lot after then, as you wind up through the mountains in Scotland, and the roads are slower going. Also the Glasgow to Inverness part of the journey is the most beautiful, so is a shame to drive it at night. Best bet, set off from London in the morning, drive up to one of the hotels just south of Glasgow along the motorway, then drive the rest the following day.
