17 year olds are still growing. Growth Hormone (the hormone in the body that helps us grow) only works when a person is sleeping. Therefore, teenagers need more sleep than an adult. It is normal for them to sleep 8-10 hours. Be sure to watch of signs of depression which would include sleeping most of the time in addition to: decreased interest, decreased energy levels, decreased concentration and decreased appetite to name a few.
