The transportation of the 20th century was mainly by carriage, horseback riding or simply walking. The most popular horses at the time were drafts because of their ability to pull carriages and to do farm work.So technically everything a car , tractor and etc could do a horse did in the 1800's.

Many worked in the woolen mills or the mines. In the mills they would work the weaving machines and also clean the lint out from under them while they were working. Many were killed or maimed in the jobs they had.
