If you have a 290 kilo horse (which is the average weight of a Shetland) he/she can hold up to a 70 kilo person. Keep in mind the height of the horse/pony as well you may end up with your feet dragging on the ground.
6.2 stones (almost 87 pounds or 39.55 kilograms) is at the upper ranges of what a Shetland pony can carry. All horses and ponies should only ever carry 20% of their own bodyweight, since the average weight for a Shetland pony is 450 pounds ( 32.1 stone or 204.11 kg.) the maximum they should carry is 90 pounds ( 6.4 stone or 40.82 kg) this includes the rider and the tack added together.
a pony is just born so they stop being a pony when there one year old. p.s if im wrong im sorry cheeman
Yes you can ride a Shetland pony, but i would sugest that you learn how to ride properly before trying to takle a Sheltland, as they can get quite tempermental, and tend to buck their riders off. Do not expect that just because the pony is small that it will be easy to ride, they are just as hard to ride as regular horses. Also it depends on how heavy this 15 year old girl is, if she is 100-150 lb it would work but not overly heavy as you could injure the pony.
kilograms
No, the Shetland Sheepdog is a small sized dogs, about 35 - 37 cm tall and weight about 6 - 7 kg. If compared to a person who is average in height, the Sheltie will be just below his knee.

Shetland ponies originate from the Shetland Islands off of the British coast. They are small, but very sturdy animals that are built to hold grown men despite their size. They can weigh up to 700 pounds.
1 kg = 1000 grams 1 gram = 0.001 kg
There are 2.2lbs in a kg therefore there are 0.4545kg in 1lb.
You take how many kg and times it by 2.2 so you answer is 41.8 pounds
