Anne Boleyn (c1501-07 - 1536) the second wife of Henry VIII (1491 - 1547) gave birth to a daughter (later Elizabeth I) in 1533, although Henry was disappointed, as he desperately wanted a male heir. However, he was confident, at that time, that Anne would eventually give him a son. Over the next two years Anne had two late miscarriages, and Henry began to tire of her. Eventually Anne, who had many jealous enemies at court, was accused on some trumped-up charges of witchcraft, incest and adultery - all treasonable offences. She was found guilty and executed at the Tower of London on 19 May 1536, by an expert French swordsman. Henry was betrothed to Jane Seymour the next day.
Anne Boleyn had 3 children. But 2 were miscarriages (both boys). Elizabeth I was the only survivor, later to be crowned Queen of England.
