Ford was the first and I can't wait till the new ford diesel is out the 6.7L ----------------- Actually, the above statement is inaccurate. The first was Dodge with a rather doggish 2.2 liter Mitsubishi diesel (which was a failure on the US market), and that was introduced in 1977, IIRC. General Motors then introduced their 5.7 Olds Diesel in 1978. Ford did not get into diesels until 1983, when they introduced the 6.9 liter International Harvester IDI diesel into their lineup, which was soon trumped by General Motors and the 6.2 liter Detroit Diesel which they introduced into their lineup in 1984. Dodge trumped them both by introducing the 5.9 liter 6BT Cummins in 1989, thus making up somewhat for their disastrous Mitsubishi diesel experiment.

The kilometer per liter of diesel of an average semi truck and trailer will depend on the habits of the driver, the weight of the load, and the terrain of the road. Most newer trucks can travel about 6 to 7 kilometers per liter of diesel fuel on a flat road with a fully loaded trailer.
