The rainforest is divided into four layers:

1) The emergents. This is the name for the few tallest trees which grow above the Canopy.

2) Canopy. This is the name for the highest trees under the emergents.

3) Under canopy. This is the name for the younger trees which aren´t as tall as the canopy, and grow just below.

4) Shrub Layer. This is the last layer where all the small plants and bushes grow. This layer gets the least sunlight.

STUPID! YOU SHOULD KNOW THAT! But if u must know its to separate the animals and trees

Actually, it's because the different organisms need to compete for different resources. For example, if all the trees were at the same level, then no light would be able to get to the forest floor. If there are 4 layers, however, then the light can filter through the trees. This allows different organisms to have the right amount of each resource rather than them having to adapt to the different levels of sunlight, rainfall etc.
