People don't necessarily "need" any milk, assuming they have adequate sources of calcium and protein in their diet. So I can't say how much you "should" drink, since you could have a perfectly healthy, balanced diet without any milk. Nevertheless, skim milk is an excellent source of protein and calcium while being free of saturated fat and low in cholesterol. To get 100% of the RDA for calcium exclusively from milk, you would need to drink roughly 3 8-oz glasses, that's .7 liters in metric terms. So if you wanted to consume your calcium requirements daily, and milk is the only source of calcium in your diet, you should drink .7 liters. Otherwise there's a big open area.

There is not a specific amount of milk that you must have each day, but rather a specified amount of dairy products. This amount; however, depends on your age. To figure out the amount of dairy products you need, use the food guide. On the website in the link below there is a link titled "Create my food guide" and you will be asked questions that will decipher the amount of each food group you are supposed to have each day.

Adults should drink 2.5litres every day

However, there is a different story emerging, especially amongst people who exercise. According to researchers almost as many exercisers are putting their health at risk by over-consuming water as drinking too little.

Drinking water at every opportunity can cause serious problems, such as hyponatraemia or water intoxication. As the water content of the blood increases, the salt content is diluted. Consequently the amount of salt available to body tissues decreases, which can lead to problems with brain, heart and muscle function.

Initial symptoms of over-hydration include dizziness, nausea, apathy and confusion. However these symptoms are also associated with dehydration - so it's important to be aware of how much you are drinking.
