As you did not list the make, model, and year here is what you do. Park the vehicle on a level surface. Drain the oil and replace the filter with a new one. Add 4 quarts or 4 liters of oil if it is a 4 or 6 cylinder. Add 5 quarts or 5 liters if it is a V8. Start the engine and run for 30 seconds. Shut down and wait 30 minutes. Check the oil level at the dipstick and add as necessary to reach the full mark. You now know the capacity. Do not overfill.
