Which team is better islanders or rangers?

As of 12/26/2009, the Islanders hold an all-time record of 101-103-22 against the Rangers. So, in that essence, the Rangers are the 'better' team by winning two more games than the Isles in all of the times that they have played each other. However, when you look at the bigger picture, you will start to see some interesting stats pointing to the Isles as being the better team. Both teams have 4 Stanley Cups, the ultimate trophy in the NHL. The Rangers won the cup in 1928, 1933, 1940 and 1994. 3 of the 4 cups won by the Rangers were when there were only SIX to TEN teams to compete against, fewer games in a playoff round and fewer playoff rounds in total. After the NHL expanded the league the Rangers did not win a cup again for 54 years! The Islanders won the cup four years in a row in 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983. There were more teams (21 in 1980) and more playoff rounds with more playoff games in each round. The Islanders are the only American team to have won four consecutive championships in a row and are the last (as of now) professional sports team in history to do so. In summary, the Rangers have won 4 cups in 86 years and the Isles have won 4 cups in 36 years. Being it took the Islanders less than half the amount of time it took the Rangers to win their cups, coupled with the fact that the Islanders won theirs in a more competitive era than the Rangers won their first 3 makes the Isles the better team.
