There is no way to know how long it will take for the transmission on a Mercedes Benz CVT to fail.
Engine revs higher on hills and on sudden bursts of accelaration, seems to rev higher before changing up, Will not back up on hills.
You have to know whats wrong with the transmission before you can fix it.
In an automatic transmission this usually means the trany is low on fluid or the trany has internal problems.
The type of transmission fluid used varies with different models and manufacturers. It also varies between automatic and manual transmissions. Before adding or changing fluid in your vehicle check your owners manual or a repair manual for the correct type and capacity.
It is a completely different transmission than what was used with the diesel before.
If the transmission would not go into gear before changing the transmission fluid, then the fluid change was for naught. Hopefully you changed the filter in there, too. If the tranny was busted before the oil change, then simply changing the oil is not going to fix the problem.
Do a VIN search and the VIN will tell you the original options.
If you have an automatic transmission it is on top of he steering column just before it goes through the firewall. If you have a manual transmission it is on the transmission.
Check the shift linkage. oops... specifically the "downshift" linkage, from the throttle control to the transmission.
Transmission temp sensor can cause a slip or high rpm before shifting to next gear.
