I purchased an olds 98 touring (3.8 GM supercharged engine) with 36k on it and ran it to 235k without any engine problems. I used preventitve maintenance and replaced the blower belt it it showed wear or checking of the belt. Oil changes were every 3k to 5k miles with filter change. The car was ok, what cost was replacing the struts, and I never did get the ton of functions handled by all the dash buttons running the computer readouts fixed, but the car ran well, and took down two deer on two different occassions without needing to actually do bodywork as I did not have full coverage. One deer in the passenger door, and one straight on, the headlights were not broken.
It is best to fit a suitable supercharger to extend its working life
In my opinion, it isn't worth purchasing a car that has 189,000 miles. I would avoid buying a sporty vehicle like a supercharged 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP 3800 as a first car.
average life of a 3.1 v6 with proper oil changes and tuneups lasts about 160,000 miles according to common reviews on engine life
As advertised, 5.0 liter engine; City mpg:16 Highway mpg:27 combine mpg:20
The 2.5 liter V6 engine ( 60,000 miles ) The 4 cylinder engine ( 100,000 miles )
NO! The 1999 Ford Escort 2.0 liter is not an Interferance engine. Replace the belt at 120,000 miles.NO! The 1999 Ford Escort 2.0 liter is not an Interferance engine. Replace the belt at 120,000 miles.
Too many variables to answer ... need make of car, year of car, model of car, what engine is in car, is it a turbo engine, it is supercharged etc.
about 12.5
11 miles to the gallon
If you have the 1.6 Liter SOHC engine the answer is YES. This is an Interference engine, and if the belt breaks engine damage will occur. Belt should be replaced every 30,000 miles. I know that sounds absurd, but that is the factory recommendation. If you have the 1.8 Liter DOHC engine, no damage will occur. It is NOT an interference engine. Replace the belt every 60,000 miles. If you have the 1.6 Liter SOHC engine the answer is YES. This is an Interference engine, and if the belt breaks engine damage will occur. According to the owners manual the timing belt should be replaced at 90,000 miles (schedule A) for the 3.5 liter engine
Yes. And it has a timing belt that needs to be changed about every 90,000 miles or so.
