Motorcycles can ride within a close distance as long as the first bike is in the left wheel track and the second bike is in the right wheel track and about a bike length behind. This allows for quick changes in direction by either bike should one need to swerve for something. They can stagger themselves like this for a large group. It is very dangerous to ride directly alongside each other in the same lane like we see in the movies.
