The research into that question continues and new archaeological finds are constantly adding to our knowledge of the very earliest native Americans. They may have been "here" (wherever that is) for over 40,000 years before Columbus arrived.
Actually, the first Americans came from asia. These are the people we know as Native Americans. They crossed over to North America by a land bridge. They did not know this was a land bridge, though. They were simply following the herds of animals that they hunted. Then came the English settlers. These people wanted to claim America, even though the Native Americans were already living here! By now, the Native Americans had found there way through what we now call Canada, the U.S., Mexico, and South America.
Absolutely no native Americans migrated to America. They were already here! They met Columbus!
Native Americans are any people group who lived in North America before the Europeans came here. Eskimos lived in northern regions. Of course, many think they arrived here by crossing from Russia but that was thousands of years before Columbus arrived.
In 1600, Virginia was populated only by Native Americans. The English settlers were not here yet.

Native Americans never migrated to the Americas. It was the Europeans that migrated here and the only thing they found was Native Americans. Native Americans have been here since the beginning. Hence the name Native AMERICANS.

ALL colonies had Native Americans. They were here first.
Native Americans founded Turtle Island (Our name for America) about 50,000 years ago, the USA (Or US) was the name that European settlers put on their government in 1782 (some say 1776). So the Native Americans were here for about 48,000 years before anyone thought of the USA.
