The United States has 5,113 nuclear warheads in its stockpile.

It does not include thousands of warheads that are disabled or all but dismantled. Those weapons could, be reconstituted, or their nuclear material re-purposed.

Estimates of the total arsenal range from slightly more than 8,000 to more then 9,000, but the Pentagon will not give a exact number.
According to the bulletin of atomic scientists (minutes to midnight people) the U.S. has 2,702 nuclear warheads in opperation. However, it will reduce its deployed arsenal down by a thousand warheads to 1,702 by 2012 in accordance with the new Moscow Treaty signed by Obama of the U.S. and Medevdev of the Russian Federation. Note: the U.S. has a stockpile of 5,000 warheads GRAND TOTAL of arround 7,000 warheads See related links to view cited source

This cannot be determined without knowing a lot more variables, including: yield per bomb, burst height/depth, "dirtiness" of the bombs (amount and type of fallout), weather.

It has been calculated that about 4 to 6 atomic bombs of about 3 to 10 megaton yield detonated high in the ionosphere at certain critical spots over the US at the same time would produce an EMP that would produce a surge in the power grid and also induce high currents in unshielded electronics equipment that would destroy all solid state electronics and severely damage most electrical equipment. This would certainly disable the US completely for some time leaving us open to other attacks that we would not be able to respond to. But it would not physically destroy the US.

Roughly 3000 (all strategic) and declining.

At the peak we had over 10000 strategic and several times that tactical.
Somewhere between 3000 and 5000. However as I do not have a Q clearance this answer cannot be relied on as it is derived solely from public documents and a bit of guesswork. Besides if I did have a Q clearance and posted even a close (but wrong) figure, I could be arrested and put in federal prison for at least 20 years for disclosure of classified data.

Which is most powerful a nuke an atomic bomb or a hydrogen bomb?

An H-Bomb is 1000 times stronger than an atomic bomb. Atomic explosions are based on splitting atoms and is a fission explosion or fission bomb. The Hydrogen bomb (also called H-Bomb) is a Fusion reaction where atoms are forced together. Atomic bombs were used in World War II, Hydrogen bombs have been tested, but not used in war.

What was the largest nuclear bomb?

When people talk about nuclear bombs, they are generally in two categories; atomic and thermonuclear. Atomic bombs are like the ones dropped on Japan in 1945.Thermonuclear bombs have never been used in warfare and involve using an atomic bomb to set off an explosion of a thermonuclear bomb, like a hydrogen bomb.IN ADDITION:The Soviet exploded the largest nuclear bomb to date back in 1961. It was a hydrogen bomb which released energy equivalent to 57 megatons of TNT. Compare that to the 15 kilotons of energy released by the first atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima Japan during WWII ( 3,800 times more energy released). The name of this device was Tsar Bomba, meaning "king of bombs."

How big was the hole where the atomic bomb exploded?

The first two atomic bombs were set of in the atmosphere, they did not make a hole. Later during the cold war, regulations prevented atmospheric/surface testing and the bombs were set off in deep holes that were pre-drilled in the ground. These holes were as deep as the engineers made them.
