There is no certain "best Trumpet player", but there are recordings of players "screaming" as high as 5 octaves above staff. Screaming refers to the type of sound the trumpet makes at those pitches.
It kind of depends. The lowest natural note on a B-Flat trumpet is a low F-sharp (concert E), however, you can play much lower than that using pedal tones.
For a bunch of years, the range was considered to be from that low F-sharp up to about C (concert B-flat) or D (concert C) above the staff. However, many players can play much higher than that.
The upper range of the trumpet is determined by how fast you can move the air from your mouth. The faster the air, the higher the note you can play.
The trumpet has an indefinite range, it all depends on who is playing it. If a seventh grader is playing the range might only be two full octaves, but if maynard Ferguson is playing it might be six octaves.
Strictly speaking, there is no limit on how high a trumpet can play. The skill of the player determines that. Most players can play up to a C or D, two ledger lines above the staff, but many players can play much higher than that. Personally, I can play almost a full octave higher than that, but I know several players than can play even higher, and a few of the really prominent pro players can play even higher.
I belive it's only four octaves, but I've heard some players can "scream" a 5th octave. "Scream", meaning the sound the trumpet makes when it reaches that point.
Actually, the trumpet can play many notes, and the range is usually limited only by the player's abilities. However, for a typical trumpet student, the range is from concert E below middle C to concert Bb two octaves above middle C.
