This is a very subjective question since it will depend on the your maintenance and operating conditions. My 1994 Prizm (1.6L) is on the west coast and I have 150k miles on it. I change my oil about every 4000 miles and I have had to replace the clutch (once at 60k, kind of low mileage), alternator (80k), water pump inlet hose (140k), clutch master cylinder (twice), brake master cylinder (80k) and timing belt (86k, a bit too long, coming up on another one). I also replaced the water pump (140k), thermostat, starter (110k), headlight bulbs, radiator hoses, drive belts, spark plug wires, spark plugs, distributor cap & rotor, and fuel filter as preventive maintenance. I also installed a new stereo and replaced the rear speakers. I did all of the changes myself except the clutch replacement and timing belt. I am still on the original set of brake shoes and pads.

I get between 33-36 mpg highway and I am well under the smog test limits.
