What are some reasons that adolescents report the stresses parents can cause them?

In most families as the child grows into their teens they are half child; half adult and start to fluff up their feathers of independence and this can cause tension between the parents and their teen and it is normal. Like it or not parents have been through much in their lives; made mistakes and do not wish to see their children make the same mistakes (it's a chain reaction and when a teen is old enough to marry and have children they will do the same things with their children.) Most parents only want their children to feel loved; safe and secure; learn right from wrong; stay away from drugs or the wrong group of friends and get a good education so they have a better life for themselves. While the parent is trying to mold this wisdom into their children (punishment by spanking on the bottom when younger) to grounding a teenager is a way to teach their children to be responsible for their own actions. However, some parents can put too much pressure on their children when the parents are pressing their children to excel in all parts of their life. It is a good thing for children to teens to start to get involved in sports; theater, etc., but, not all teens are good at one thing and the parents should see this and let the child or teen choose what they enjoy such as reading books; artwork, etc. Some fathers may put extreme stress on their sons to be in sports and excel in sports. Some mothers may force their child into dance; music, pageants and expect them to excel when that child simply does not have the talent for it. Parents who have alcohol or drug addictions are also a burden on their children especially when they are teens and find themselves acting like the parents and looking after one or two parents who are acting more like their children. 'Lock Key' children are ones that come home to an empty house while both parents work and this can especially be difficult for young teens when they need a parent at home to talk too. They need the feeling that there is someone home; especially their mother. If the parent's child or teen has been fairly mature for their ages then parents will have to trust them to some point and give them a little freedom as time goes on. Sometimes parents can be too strict with their children, but it is out of love and the fear their child will not be safe and this strictness can cause adolescents to fight for their freedom. If parents never listen to the feeling of their children and dismiss their concerns because the parent feels the subject in their adult minds is not important enough and it always is! It's important to that child!
