Statistics kept by Transport Canada for 2009 show 2,209 fatalities. I couldn't find data later than 2009, although TC issued a number of statements that fatalities have been dropping steadily for the past 10 years.
The statistics don't say if the deaths were drivers or passengers.

Absolutely NOT ! Pay up and learn your lesson !... Far too many people are KILLED by irresponsible drivers texting while driving. You either drive the car - or use your phone - not both at the same time !
I think people get tired while driving because there is really nothing to entertain them so they get bored and fall asleep.
