Also, the royal wedding was a hit across the world and people in Australia, America and Canada were fascinated by our Royal family. This is why I'd say she is pretty famous.
Generically a "diamond jubilee" is the 60th anniversary of some event (birthday, wedding, coronation, foundation of something) where the participants in the event are still in existence (alive in the case of jubilees associated with people). In essence the jubilee happens on the date of the original event but in the case of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth, people are celebrating over the whole YEAR of her accession to the throne (6 February 1952).
