This question is very difficult if not impossible to answer because the vast majority of people who try to end their own lives do not openly tell anyone. Also many people who deliberately harm themselves but do not die in that "harming attempt" may not have meant to end their own lives.
However it is believed that for each "completed" suicide - an intentional action by a person that ends their life - there may be up to 30 "attempted suicides".
For example in the US in 2006 (latest final statistics) 33,300 people died by suicide or over 91 every day. This means that about 30 times that number may have tried, but failed, to end their lives.
This works out at 2,730 every day.

We would rather not advise people about how to commit suicide. Perhaps you could tell us why you would wish to do so, and we might have some useful advice for you.

I can't think of any one special.
No, he was found by the US.
John Quincy Adams did not commit suicide. He died at an advanced age from a stroke. No US president has ever committed suicide.
In the US, nearly 18 out of every 100,000 people commit suicide. The numbers have been rising year after year. More women attempt suicide, but more men complete the act.
Well that is unknown, but it is known that more men kill themselves then women do. -Tgmhc
In 2005 there were 14,916 men who used a gun to end their own life. The same year, there were 2086 women who used guns.
