Zyklon B was the trade name of a cyanide-based pesticide infamous for its use by Nazi Germany against human beings in gas chambers of extermination camps during the Holocaust. Death of the people inside the gas chamber occurred after a few minutes as a result of internal suffocation caused by the prussic acid halting the exchange of oxygen between the blood and tissues.
Degesch played a key role in the manufacturing of Zyklon B in World War II. Degesch's role at this point was limited to acquiring patents and intellectual property: it did not itself produce Zyklon B. During the years of the camps, millions of Zyklon canisters were delivered into most Nazi camps.

∙ 12y agoThe first gassing's of prisoners occur in Auschwitz I on the 3rd September 1941. The SS tests Zyklon B gas by killing 600 Soviet prisoners of war and 250 other ill or weak prisoners. Testing takes place in a makeshift gas chamber in the cellar of Block 11 in Auschwitz I. The success of these experiments leads to the adoption of Zyklon B as the killing agent for Auschwitz II-Birkenau.
