20 billion people die in parks eruption

20 billion people haven't lived over the course of Earth's history, I don't think that many died in one explosion. The last explosion of Yellowstone was 640 000 years ago and around 60% of the world's population died.

One Perspective (Eurocentric):

None. The volcano at Yellowstone has not erupted since long before people settled North America. The last super eruption was 640,000 years ago; before our species even evolved.

An Historical Answer:

The fact is we don't know. In reality the last violent eruption of the Yellowstone caldera occurred about 150,000 years ago and produced the West Thumb of Yellowstone Lake. A major magma release occurred about 13,800 years ago and resulted in a 5 kilometer subduction crater on the north end of Yellowstone Lake.

Now, while debate exists (actually denial on the part of Eurocentric archaeologists) on how long people have lived in North America, evidence is irrefutable the humans have been here for at least 15,000 years (see anything regarding the Buttermilk Creek Complex) and perhaps as much as 35,000 years from the present (read up on the two cultural component layers discovered at Monte Verde, Chile).

Regardless of anyone's personal perspective, even the near obsolete Clovis-first theory allows for substantial human habitation on the continent during the last major caldera erruption. Devestation would have been apocalyptic to anyone living within a 100 mile radius of Mary Bay

No people have been killed by eruptions at Yellowstone. The last super eruption was 640,000 years ago, which was before our species evolved. The last eruption was 70,000 years ago, which was still well before people had arrived in North America. A few people are known to ave been scalded to death after falling into hot springs.

Since that was before the development of writing, there are no records of the event.

Is the Yellowstone volcano a hot spot?

It is believed that 2.1 million years ago, Yellowstone 'Supervolcano' did erupt, it then erupted a second time and the last time it erupted was 640,000 years ago. In 2008, scientists measured high seismic activity showing that Yellowstone could potentially erupt again but hopefully not any time soon. But in proper answer to your question, Yellowstone spewed lava last 70,000 years ago and its most recent super-eruption was 640,000 years ago. Scientists say it is overdue for another eruption but this is all we know so far.
